Alice Olson Byron Memorial Music Scholarship Fund
The fund was established in 2010 with a gift from the family of Alice Olson Byron and the Alice Olson Memorial Fund, to assist students who have graduated from a Pembina County, ND high school to continue their post-secondary education.
Alice enjoyed music throughout her life, and was a piano teacher, accordionist, handbell ringer, vocal soloist, and church organist. She played in a dance band as a young adult, and entertained at nursing homes in her retirement years. Alice was a leader in many organizations in the Bathgate and Cavalier communities, and she served for 26 years in the North Dakota House of Representatives in Bismarck. She was Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee for several terms. Alice also served on the Board of Directors for the International Peace Garden and was President of the Northeast North Dakota Heritage Association for 10 years.
Alice was a strong supporter of people involved in both visual art and performing arts. This scholarship will continue to support young students who share her love of music.
Preference will be given to students who are pursuing a music major, but anyone actively involved in music may qualify as well. Students should also exhibit the characteristics of self-motivation, respect for others, honesty and dependability.

Margaret Geiger Green Memorial Scholarship
The fund was established in 1986 in memory of Margaret Geiger Green by her family. Margaret moved to Cavalier in the mid-30's to teach school in Cavalier. She taught music through all grades and taught 5th grade as well. After marrying, she remained in Cavalier, raising five children, all who graduated from Cavalier School. Two grandchildren have also graduated from Cavalier. Margaret continued to teach many students in the area of music -- both piano and organ until shortly before her death in 1985. Education was always very important to her, encouraging not only her children but others as well to further their education beyond high school. The family felt that sponsoring a scholarship in her name would be fitting to the memory of a woman who valued education.
The scholarship will assist a graduating senior from the Cavalier High School. The award will be made after successful completion of the first term as a full time college student. Factors to be considered in the selection process include without priority: academic achievement, participation in school and community extracurricular activities and financial need.
