Ellendale Area Scholarship
The Ellendale Area Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by a gift from the local Dollars for Scholars group.
The initial primary purpose of the Fund will be to financially assist students from the Ellendale School District further their education. Preference will be given to students who participated in 50 hours of fundraising for school activities. Applicants planning to attend a four-year institution must have maintained a 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of at least 21. Applicants to a two-year college must have maintained a 2.5 GPA and an ACT score of 16. The Advisory Committee may take family circumstances into account when choosing the student.

Helen & Ed Leiby Memorial Scholarship In Science And Mathematics
The fund was established in 1985 by Edwin Leiby in memory of his parents, Helen & Ed Leiby. Helen's life in Ellendale was involved with education, the PTA, and many other service organizations. Ed was active in many Ellendale organizations. He served several years on Ellendale's school board and was its president for one term. Ed also hired many Ellendale High School and Ellendale State Normal and Industrial College students to work in his drug store. He was particularly quick in basic mathematics and usually expected those who worked for him to be good with numbers also. He was a member of the first graduating class of Ellendale High School and his father was one of the founders of Ellendale and served on its first school board.
The scholarship will assist a graduating senior from the Ellendale High School. The award will be made in the fall of each year. The student need not be majoring in mathematics or science to be eligible for the scholarship. The award is based solely on the student’s success in these fields during high school. It will not be renewable for a second year.

Jean E. Crabtree Memorial Scholarship
The Jean E. Crabtree Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by her family and friends. Ms. Crabtree was valedictorian of the Ellendale High School Class of 1933. Her Bachelor’s degrees were earned in English and Library Science at the University of North Dakota and Columbia University, New York, NY respectively. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa. Her entire career was dedicated to the education of young people. She was an educator, librarian, world traveler, adventurer, and connoisseur of theater and art.
Graduating seniors from Ellendale High School may apply for the scholarship. Students must display the characteristics of self-motivation, respect for others, honesty, and dependability. Service to school and community as well as financial need shall be considered. The student must have a GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 = A scale. The recipient will show enthusiasm for learning and appreciation for literature and the fine arts.

Kyla Morehead Memorial Scholarship
The fund was established in 1998 by family and friends of Kyla Morehead who passed away of natural causes on February 8, 1998 at the age of 24.
Kyla was a 1991 graduate of Ellendale High School, and graduated from NDSU in 1995 with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. She was married to Ken Morehead on June 17, 1995 and began work at Ellendale High School as a Math teacher in the fall of 1996.
In her short time at EHS, she touched many students’ lives with her dedication to seeing every student receive the personal attention necessary for them to gain an understanding of the material being studied, and her desire to make math a fun and interesting subject to learn. After her death, one of her students wrote, “Although she was a part-time teacher, she was often seen at school full-time to go one-on-one with her students who may have needed help. Whether it was a problem with math or anything pertaining to life, she was there to help.”
Kyla enjoyed doing cross-stitch and spending quiet time reading and gardening. She also taught private piano lessons to many local children out of her home. She will always be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The scholarship will financially assist those students from Ellendale High School who are dedicated and achieving high standards with their extra effort. Students must have maintained a GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 = A Scale. Preference will be given to students who have taken the higher math classes offered at Ellendale High School (Algebra II or Senior Math) and who demonstrate high personal character.

Leo Billey Memorial Scholarship
The Leo Billey Scholarship Fund was established with a gift from the estate of Leo Billey who passed away in 2005.
Leo Billey farmed near Ellendale in Dickey County. He left his real estate to establish this fund to assist students from Oakes and Ellendale High Schools to pursue higher education.
To financially assist students from Oakes and Ellendale. Students may attend any institution of higher learning to include vocational education.
Preference will be given in the following order of importance:
1. Personal Character
2. Academic Achievement
3. Community/School Involvement
4. Attending a North Dakota Institution
5. Financial Need

Muriel Crabtree Music Scholarship
The fund was established in 1983 in memory of Muriel Crabtree Thorberg Meyer, a former resident of Ellendale, by her family and friends. Her life centered around music, the piano and organ. She shared her talents freely helping others develop their musical talents.
The scholarship will assist a graduating senior from Ellendale High School who shows talent in music and is desirous of pursuing a college degree in that field of study.

Tiny & Joyce Gebhardt Scholarship Fund
The Tiny & Joyce Gebhardt Scholarship was established in 2008 by both Tiny & Joyce. Tiny lived in the Ellendale area his whole life and Joyce since 1976 working on their family farm located approximately 19 miles north of Ellendale. Joyce was widowed at the age of 38 with four young children. With the help of grants, scholarships and loans the children were able to attend college and all completed a Masters Degree or beyond. Both Joyce and Tiny have always been an advocate of education.
The Gebhardt’s desire is to create a scholarship that provides financial assistance to students aspiring to further their education beyond high school, while focusing on those without the means to attend on their own.
Graduating seniors from Ellendale High School may apply for the scholarship. Students must display the characteristics of self-motivation, respect for others, honesty, dependability, and a strong work ethic in and out of school. The scholarship will focus its benefits on those that meet the above criteria along with regard to the applicant’s financial need. The student must have a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.00 = A scale.
