The 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by the Oakes Area Community Foundation was a success! The event raised $4,000 for the Oakes Area Community Foundation endowment fund, a permanent fund that provides grants to nonprofit projects and programs in the Oakes area. The funds raised at the golf tournament will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the North Dakota Community Foundation, which manages the endowment fund.
Fifty-seven golfers tried their luck at the many contests and at winning the tournament. The golfers teed off by shortly after 10am and the tournament was wrapped up by 5pm. The winners of the 3 flights were:

Starion Financial ended up beating the Ptacek Financial team, so a donation of $250 was made by PFS along with a suggestion for a rematch next year!

Leo Billey Memorial Scholarship
The Leo Billey Scholarship Fund was established with a gift from the estate of Leo Billey who passed away in 2005.
Leo Billey farmed near Ellendale in Dickey County. He left his real estate to establish this fund to assist students from Oakes and Ellendale High Schools to pursue higher education.
To financially assist students from Oakes and Ellendale. Students may attend any institution of higher learning to include vocational education.
Preference will be given in the following order of importance:
1. Personal Character
2. Academic Achievement
3. Community/School Involvement
4. Attending a North Dakota Institution
5. Financial Need

Ray & Hazel Wuolu Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Ray & Hazel Wuolu in 2011. This fund will provide a scholarship to a deserving Oakes High School Graduate.
Priorities for awarding the scholarship include:
1) Graduating OHS senior
2) Student attending the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks
3) A student majoring in an allied health sciences field within the School of Medicine
including pre-med, clinical laboratory science, occupational therapy, physical
therapy, or nursing
4) Selection will be based on the student with the highest GPA while meeting the above criteria

Brian Meehl Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in 2011 by the Family of Brian Meehl to provide assistance to deserving student from Oakes Public Schools. Brian A. Meehl was born April 21, '59. He grew up in Oakes, ND and graduated from Oakes HS in 1977. He graduated from UND in December 1982 with a degree in Parks and Recreation. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Brian died suddenly of a massive heart attack in Englewood, Colorado on October 26, '08.

This fund was established in 2011 to provide scholarship assistance to students from the Oakes Area. The Rick and Nancy Warner Bigler Scholarship is to be awarded annually to an Oakes High School Senior in good standing to assist the recipient with the expenses related to a higher education experience. A four-year public college or university, a two-year college, or public technical school shall be qualified institutions. Please contact the Oakes High School for additional information.
