A
question that comes up often in conversation is “Just what is
the North Dakota Community Foundation?” Sometimes it’s hard to
put into a punchy sentence or two just what the NDCF is and
does. The usual response is that the Community Foundation is a
state-wide IRS Designated 501(c)(3) public charitable
foundation. That description gives you a one sentence legal
description of what the North Dakota Community Foundation is.
This booklet and accompanying Newsletter give you a much better
picture of the NDCF and just what the Community Foundation does.

probably more descriptive, answer to the question posed above is
that the North Dakota Community Foundation allows North Dakotans
and those interested in North Dakota a vehicle to accomplish
their charitable goals.
In the pages that follow you will find lists of gifts received,
grants made and endowment balances. Notice the diversity of
organizations which have received assistance from the North
Dakota Community Foundation; diversity not only in type of
organization, but also in geographic location and size of
organization. |

In addition, you
will note scholarship grants to literally hundreds of North Dakota
kids. This is the “good” that the Community Foundation is chartered
to do as an IRS Designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization. |
| |
|
The organizations
which receive grants turn that money into service to North Dakota
citizens. The students turn our scholarship grants into knowledge
with the help of the institutions of higher learning which they
attend. This leads to more productive citizens who will lead our
state and country in the future. |

On the facing page
are the names of the NDCF Board of Directors. These people from
across the State and from various walks of life are volunteers who
give of their time, talent and treasure to serve. They receive no
monetary compensation for their service on the Board. In fact, we
ask them to give in support of the Foundation’s work. They do,
however, receive something very precious in return for their
service; the satisfaction of giving back to their communities and
State. Consider how you might find some of that same satisfaction
through the North Dakota Community Foundation. |
