   Report of Chair & President

Our formal mission statement is: “To improve the quality of life for North Dakota’s citizens through charitable giving and promoting philanthropy.” This is, of course, rather a broad statement of mission. Just how does one go about accomplishing it?
I believe that it was Warren Buffet who, when asked for career advice by a young person, responded with, “Try to be useful”. We, at the North Dakota Community Foundation think that is excellent advice and have taken it to heart.

NDCF Board Chairman, Linda Steve, Dickinson Certified Public Accountant

We strive to be useful to our donors, our grantees and the citizens of North Dakota. Building a permanent charitable resource to serve some of the needs of the State’s citizens is our main business. The various endowment funds listed in these pages now number over 400. They are useful to the citizens of North Dakota in the grants that they give which are also listed in this report. When the Carrington Community Fund makes a grant to the Carrington City Library, that is useful in allowing the Library to better serve its patrons. When the Grafton Community Fund makes a grant for the Collette Community Fitness Center, it is useful in improving this resource which helps keep the citizens of Grafton physically fit.

Kevin Dvorak, President and CEO, NDCF, Bismarck,
North Dakota

This brings up another point about foundations in general, nothing happens until a grant is made. The heavy lifting is done by the local groups all across the State who build the buildings, work with those less fortunate, or serve as a local volunteers. Foundations such as ours provide monetary support to help these organizations to accomplish their missions and objectives.
Perhaps after looking over this report, you might be inspired to support the NDCF Unrestricted Endowment, or any of our restricted funds. In doing this, you will join us in our mission of being useful to the citizens of this great State.
