Dr. Donald P. Miller Memorial Scholarship

Fund Background: The Dr. Donald P. Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the family of Dr. Donald P. Miller after his untimely death in 1998. Don was born on April 3, 1936 in Strasburg, ND. He was a 1954 graduate of Strasburg High School where he was known for his athletic and academic abilities. He went on to Valley City State College and received an undergraduate degree in 1958. He taught in Kulm, Hazelton and Dickinson.

Don later earned his M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in 1962 and a Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1976. From 1976 to 1997, he was a member of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at St. Cloud State University. Don was active in professional mathematics organizations and frequently gave workshops and presentations at state, regional and national meetings. Don made significant contributions to the Mathematics Department at SCSU by training elementary teachers and demonstrating modern methods of teaching mathematics.

Don was well known for development of educational publications and activities for elementary school teachers. He continued to design various teaching resources, computer programs, and publications used in classrooms throughout America. His successful teaching skills motivated students as SCSU and influenced the lives of many persons who became teachers.

Eligibility Requirements: Eligible students must have graduated from Strasburg HS, ND. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate exceptional skill in mathematics and athletics and have demonstrated high moral character. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 average on a 4.00 = A grading scale.
