Elvine Sondreaal Septon Scholarship

Fund Background: The Elvine Sondreaal Septon Scholarship Fund was established by Dean and Betty Winkjer in loving memory of Betty’s mother in the year 2000. Elvine Sondreaal Septon was born September 24, 1905 on a farm near Hatton, North Dakota, in Beaver Creek Township, Steele County. She was one of twelve children and was especially close to her brother Gilmore. She became a school teacher, and married Oscar N. Septon who was a ticket agent for the Great Northern Railway. They settled in Williston, North Dakota. She became a homemaker and raised three daughters. After her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Williston until her death in 1996 at the age of 91. Family and church were the center of her life. She loved and appreciated her Lutheran heritage. Hopefully, in the years to come, this gift will help provide spiritual guidance for others on their journey of faith.

Eligibility Requirements: The initial primary purpose of the fund will be to financially assist students to attend Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN as long as the school continues to subscribe to the Christian Doctrine as expressed in the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. Priority will be given to students nominated from the membership of First Lutheran Church in Williston, ND and/or Grace Lutheran Church of Wildrose, ND, but only if those congregations subscribe to the Christian Doctrine as expressed in the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed.
