Garry Opp Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Background: The Garry Opp Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 by the Opp Family, to provide scholarship assistance to students graduating from Oakes High School. Garry Opp was an elementary teacher in both Oakes and Guelph from 1969 – 2001. He also coached wrestling, track, and junior high football. He spent 19 years as the head coach of the Tornado wrestling program and was named the 1992 North Dakota High School Wrestling Coach of the Year. In 2004, he was inducted into the North Dakota Wrestling Hall of Fame. Mr. Opp was inducted into the OPS Hall of Fame in 2014. He passed away that same year after battling pancreatic cancer.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicant must be pursuing a degree in education or science
- Preference will be given, but is not limited to, a member of the wrestling team.
Additional Information:
The scholarship will be paid after the student conpletes their first semester of college.
Applications accepted January 1 - April 1 only. Applications received outside of this window will NOT be accepted.
